From April 25 to April 28, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet (RWB) proudly presents an unparalleled season finale, featuring two captivating performances: the iconic Carmina Burana with the world premiere of T’əl: The Wild Man of the Woods at the Centennial Concert Hall.
Carmina Burana
Composed by Carl Orff, Carmina Burana stands as one of the most celebrated choral and classical scores of the 20th century. Choreographer Mauricio Wainrot’s artfully-staged vignettes capture the spirit of the orchestral masterpiece celebrating community and the joys of life. With the live score performed by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra with vocal soloists Andrea Lett, Matthew Pauls, Nolan Kehler alongside the Prairie Voices and Winnipeg Boys Choirs, audiences are in for an unforgettable performance.
T’əl: The Wild Man of the Woods
In a historic collaboration with Indigenous artists, the RWB proudly presents the world premiere of T’əl: The Wild Man of the Woods created by RWB Choreographer in Residence, Cameron Fraser-Monroe.
Narrated by Elder Elsie Paul in both Ayajuthem and English, this mesmerizing tale follows the legend of T’əl, who kidnaps children from the village after dark, until one young woman ventures to save her sister. The striking score by JUNO Award-nominated Two-Spirit composer Cris Derksen will be performed live by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra accompanied by Derksen on cello. With New York-based Navajo designer and Yale-alumnus Asa Benally leading costume design, T’əl soars with artistic brilliance.
