“Music in Our Hearts (La musique dans nos coeurs)” is the second offering of the Musica Singers for its maiden season. Last December, the ensemble presented “Musically Yours This Christmas” at the CMU Laudamus Auditorium. Their debut season will be capped off with “Musica, An Evening of Kundiman and Philippine Art Songs” on June 8 at the Seven Oaks Performing Arts Centre.
Musica Singers is one of Manitoba’s newest vocal ensembles. It is managed by the Musica Singers of Manitoba, a not-for-profit organization, which aims to showcase Philippine art, culture, and traditions in performances throughout the province.
In its one-year existence, Musica Singers has performed at the Filipino Heritage Celebration game of the Winnipeg Jets and the Dallas Stars and twice at the annual Community Celebration concert of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. The group has also presented two full-length concerts for the benefit of the Philippine Canadian Centre of Manitoba.
Members of the Musica Singers come from the growing Filipino community in Winnipeg. This diverse ensemble is composed of professionals in architecture, civil service, education, finance, health services, information technology, marketing, medicine, music, and real estate. Their deep love and appreciation for Philippine music has brought them together as the Musica Singers.
